You Dropped a Bomb on Me

This hobby no longer belongs to the bored seniors in nursing homes and those spinster aunts with seven cats! Yarn boming has taken crochet from the sad slump of cultural obscurity to the forefront of public art. Poland-born and Brooklyn-based Olek (real name Agata Oleksiak) has forced her way into the art and commercial spheres through this new genre.
The Polish artist is featured in 40 Under 40: Craft Futures at the Smithsonian’s Renwick Gallery. The D.C. Gallery will show Olek’s Knitting is for Pussies. The piece, previously displayed in New York’s Christopher Henry Gallery, features an apartment entirely covered (including its residents) in yarn crocheted with text and entrancing patterns.
Olek also (allegedly) yarn bombed the National Academy of Sciences Albert Einstein Memorial in pink and purple with dashes of black and teal: a lighthearted work that would perhaps make the eccentric scientist chuckle.

Tuesday

Thinking of an old friend today.

When I am an Old Man

When I am an old man,
I hope I am not bitter.
I hope I never criticize
The younger generation
Without first remembering
What it was like to be young.

I hope I am not bored,
Or disillusioned, or grumpy.

I hope I have exactly
As much money
As I have now
(under $1000).

I hope I don’t own
Any property
Or status symbols
Like a nice car.

I hope I still seek out
New music every day,
Write every day,
Care about art.

I hope,
By the time I am an old man,
That I have written books
And taught a lot of students
About writing.

I hope I have wisdom
And compassion
And an open mind
And heart.

I hope,
When I am an old man,
I can say with sincerity,
“I followed my dreams,
And I never gave up.”

Bad Brains formed in Washington, D.C., in 1977. They are widely regarded as among the pioneers of hardcore punk. The band developed an early reputation in Washington D.C., due in part to the relative uniqueness of an entirely African-American band playing punk rock, but also due to their high-energy performances and undeniable talent. In 1979, Bad Brains found themselves the subject of an unofficial ban among many Washington D.C. area clubs and performance venues (later addressed in their song, "Banned in D.C."). The band subsequently relocated to New York City. The band's classic and current lineup is singer H.R. (Human Rights), guitarist Dr. Know, bassist Daryl Jenifer, and drummer Earl Hudson, H.R.'s younger brother.  Their self-titled first album is universally regarded as a punk rock classic.

Ok, less talk, more action! let's get nice & rowdy listening to a few classics:
